A Chat with Kyle Owen creator of WP7 game Orbiter

Robot Asylum
Lead Developer: Kyle Owen

Recently I had the chance to meet, well virtually meet, Kyle Owen: Lead Developer of Robot Asylum. After playing one of his games, Orbiter, I decided to feature it in my Windows Phone Gaming corner. I sent Robot Asylum an email letting them know about the feature. I received a reply not only with a thank you but some tips and options to receive help with the trickier levels, which I might have to take him up on. I thought he might also take some time to answer some question about gaming and he was happy to share.

Generation Xbox: How Videogames Invaded Hollywood
Generation Xbox - Hollywood is under attack from videogames. Movies defined the 20th century but games are now pushing them aside as the medium that captures our time, fascination and money. Generation Xbox digs into the love-hate relationship between games and cinema that has led us to this point. It's a story of disaster, triumph and Angelia Jolie in hot pants. Learn how Steven Spielberg's game-making dreams fell apart and why Silicon Valley pioneers wooed Stanley Kubrick. Discover the story behind the failed Halo movie, how videogame tech paved the way for Avatar, and what companies like Ubisoft and Valve are doing to take gaming to the next level. Based on more than 100 interviews with leading figures from videogames and Hollywood, Generation Xbox is the definitive history of an epic power struggle that has reshaped the entertainment landscape. Are you ready to play?

After reading Jamie Russell's book I thought his insight on gaming and movies was great and Gaming as a Dad wanted to talk to him.  The good new was he said yes and the better news was he took the time out of his busy schedule to make this an interview worth reading, maybe twice.

A Phone Call With A Cheater
By Geo Trax

We all have played a round of Call of Duty where you seem to die at every turn. The enemy is “everywhere,” kill streak rewards attacking from above, and you swear you just spawned in front of gun fire. Right at the point when you want to throw your controller through the television the agony finally comes to an end. The final stats come up and the top scoring player has 40 plus kills and at most 1 or 2 deaths. Lamenting over your 3 kills and 30 plus deaths you notice the winner has three yellow bars now you are just pissed off. You are playing the game while others are cheating and frustrated you back out of the lobby. Sound familiar?

Why do they do it? Why bother playing the game? Gaming as a Dad got the chance to talk to a cheater and gained a little insight as to why they “play” the way they do. This is a friend of a friend and not wanting to get into trouble the interview was done over the phone and he refused to give me a name or gamertag. So for this interview we will call him Captain nOOb and after reading this you will too.

Pocket Apocalypse:
An Interview With The Makers Of Zombies, Run!

Written By Helix:

Earlier this year the development team at Six to Start along with novelist Naomi Alderman released Zombies, Run!

Zombies, Run! is a running based game originally released for your favorite iOS mobile device and is now available for both Android and Windows Phone 7.

You are runner number 5, the silent protagonist that must unravel the mystery of what caused humanity’s fall.  The missions unfold in the headset as you run.  As you exercise you collect supplies that are later used to fortify Abel Township – a small town that could use all the help they can get to repel the zombie hordes.

Zombies, Run! is a unique twist on the running app genre and I was fortunate enough to talk with Adrian Hon from Six to Start about the success of their game and where it’s headed in the future.

Brought to you by Geo Trax

Have you ever played a game on the phone and thought to yourself, "This is awesome how did they come up with that?" That is how I felt that after playing Radiant on my Windows Phone. This game is great to play and beautiful to look at and was brought to life by the brilliant minds at Hexage. Gaming as a Dad decided to take the time to ask the "small" team at Hexage a few questions about phones, gaming, and what inspires the greatness in the games they make. Fortunately for you Patrick took the time to respond and provide a little insight to the world of mobile gaming.
